San Joaquin County, CA – The San Joaquin County Probation Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our community, especially during a high-traffic holiday like Halloween. As such, the department will be closely monitoring sex offenders under their supervision on Halloween night.
Probation officers will be conducting drive-by and in-person home visits to ensure that clients are complying with their probation terms. Clients have been given clear directives by their supervising probation officers to not display any Halloween decorations on their residence, keep their porch lights off, not answer the door to trick-or-treaters, and clearly display a sign which indicates there is no candy available at the residence. Clients have been provided with a flyer stating “Stop! No Candy at This Residence” to ensure compliance. If a violation is observed, officers will contact the client, photos will be taken, and items removed. In addition, if a minor is located at any of the residences, an arrest will be made. This increased monitoring is part of our department’s efforts to keep our community safe and secure during this festive time.
“We take the safety of our community very seriously, and Halloween is no exception,” said Probation Unit Supervisor Debbie Daniels. “By closely monitoring offenders on Halloween night, we are ensuring that everyone can enjoy the holiday without any concerns for their safety.” Supervisor Daniels oversees the Intensive Supervision Unit, which supervises clients who have been charged with sex-related crimes.
The Probation Department currently supervises 120 clients on formal probation with current or past sex-related offenses, and 30 clients who have been released on community supervision through Assembly Bill 109. The Department encourages residents to report any suspicious activities or concerns to their local law enforcement agency. By working together, we can help keep our community safe and enjoyable for all.
In addition to the department’s annual Halloween operation, our officers work diligently to ensure safe environments at community events throughout the year. Clients with sex-related offenses against minors receive letters with reminders and directives not to attend events where children are present, such as fairs, carnivals, sporting events, water parks, concerts, graduations, and more.
