The San Joaquin County Probation Department recently led a two-day Proposition 63 compliance operation concentrating on the enforcement of firearm laws and ensuring individuals prohibited from owning weapons are in compliance with state law.
What is Proposition 63?
Approved by California voters in 2016, Proposition 63, often called the “Safety for All Act,” strengthened California’s firearm regulations. It requires individuals convicted of certain felonies or violent misdemeanors to relinquish firearms they own, prohibits possession of high-capacity magazines, and enhances background checks. The law is designed to reduce gun violence and improve community safety.
This operation was carried out by the Probation Department in collaboration with the Manteca Police Department, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
